Biography
Gijs van den Oord studied theoretical physics and mathematics at Utrecht University. He did a PhD in particle physics at the Radboud University in Nijmegen, where he developed expertise in high-performance computing (HPC) and Monte Carlo simulation. With his C++ code he studied weak boson scattering in Higgsless models at the Large Hadron Collider. Thereafter, Gijs has worked as a consultant in scientific software development. At the Netherlands eScience Center he is primarily involved in projects in numerical weather prediction and climate simulation, using high-performance computing and large-scale data processing.
