SUMMARY:Extremely High-Resolution Modeling on Unstructured Meshes with FES
 OM2
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\n\nExtremely High-Resolution Modeling on Unstruc
 tured Meshes with FESOM2\n\nKoldunov, Sidorenko, Danilov\n\nUnstructured m
esh global geophysical models becoming more mature, and already contributi
ng to major intercomparison projects like CMIP6 and OMIP. We will use ocea
n model FESOM2 as an example, to discuss advantages and challenges that co
mes with unstructured global models. In particular we will cover existing
high resolution setups with variable horizontal resolution, regional very
high resolution meshes, and how those meshes can speedup development of fu
ture global 1km resolution ocean models. We will also report on the progre
ss in parallel I/O for very large setups and scalable data handling and pr
ocessing workflows.\n\nDomain: CS and Math, Climate and Weather, Physics
