SUMMARY:Towards Non-Uniform Staggered Grids with DMStag
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\n\nTowards Non-Uniform Staggered Grids with DMSt
ag\n\nSanan\n\nWe present recent developments related to the computations
on staggered grids, enable by the StagBL project and the DMStag component
in PETSc. These are motivated by the need to solve large geophysical Stoke
s problems with highly-variable viscosity. Here, we discuss capabilities t
o construct scalable solvers for the Stokes system, as well as recent work
on extending these methods to locally-refined orthogonal grids, which all
ow for increased accuracy for a given total number of degrees of freedom,
while retaining some of the desirable properties of finite difference meth
ods, like a narrow operator stencil.\n\nDomain: CS and Math, Climate and W
