SUMMARY:Can Directive Based Approaches Close the Gap between Traditional P
rogramming Models and Modern Heterogeneous Architectures?
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\n\nCan Directive Based Approaches Close the Gap
between Traditional Programming Models and Modern Heterogeneous Architectu
res?\n\nSchättler\n\nDWD has recently purchased a NEC Aurora Tsubasa super
computer with vector engines. This opens a new challenge, because our code
s COSMO and ICON now have to be ported and optimized for CPU, GPU, and tra
ditional vector processors. We will present some highlights of the porting
to these architectures and how the modifications influence the performanc
e of the code. Whether directive based approaches can close the gap betwee
n traditional programming models and modern heterogeneous architectures wi
ll also be discussed.\n\nDomain: CS and Math, Climate and Weather, Physics
