SUMMARY:Performance Portability Options for Earth Systems Models on Emergi
 ng Computer Architectures
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\n\nPerformance Portability Options for Earth Sys
tems Models on Emerging Computer Architectures\n\nMcIntosh-Smith\n\nAs we
invest considerable effort in getting the community of Earth Systems Model
ling codes ready for Exascale, we must choose which programming models and
frameworks we adopt carefully. With a diverse range of different CPUs and
GPUs from a wide range of vendors, it is crucial that this investment ena
bles performance portability. In this talk we will look at the results fro
m recent evaluations of potential candidates for performance portability s
olutions, such as SYCL, a core part of Intel's oneAPI initiative, and Open
MP target offload. We will compare these approaches to domains specific la
nguages, and explore where each might be the optimal choice.\n\nDomain: CS
and Math, Climate and Weather, Physics
