SUMMARY:From Monitoring to Process Placement a Complete Workflow for Optim
izing Data Management at System Scale
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\n\nFrom Monitoring to Process Placement a Comple
te Workflow for Optimizing Data Management at System Scale\n\nJeannot\n\nD
ata management and especially communication optimization is one of the key
techniques to achieve performance and scalability of high-performance com
puting applications. One of the interesting techniques for minimizing comm
unication cost and data exchange between processes is to perform a careful
process placement. The process placement consists in allocating the proce
sses of the parallel application to the computing resources in order to re
duce the network traffic. For instance, process that exchange a lot of dat
a should be mapped close to each other according to the topology. To do so
, several steps have to be carried out. First, it requires to monitor the
communication pattern. Second it needs to gather the topology where the ap
plication is going to be executed. Then an algorithm computes the process
mapping based on these two pieces of information. Last, the mapping is enf
orced for the execution. In this presentation, I will describe our contrib
ution in all these dimensions of the problem. Presenting the tools we have
developed as well as the results displaying performance improvement.\n\nD
