SUMMARY:POP and ChEESE - The Audit of SeisSol for Computational Earthquake
Simulations with GPU-Aware MPI Communication for Local Time Stepping
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\n\nPOP and ChEESE - The Audit of SeisSol for Com
putational Earthquake Simulations with GPU-Aware MPI Communication for Loc
al Time Stepping\n\nGabriel, Dorozhinskii, Bader\n\nThe ChEESE CoE is an i
nitiative to integrate HPC and data analysis across Solid Earth related di
sciplines in Europe. One of its main goals is to prepare ten flagship code
s for upcoming exascale environments. These codes cover important asp
ects of geoscience, namely: computational seismology, magnetohydrodynamics
, physical volcanology, and tsunami modeling. In collaboration w
ith ChEESE, the CoE on "Performance Optimisation and Productivity" (POP) c
onducted performance audits of all ChEESE codes. We will present the audit
performed on SeisSol, software for computational earthquake simulations,
specifically on its GPU version with a focus on GPU-aware MPI communicatio
n for Local and Global Time stepping schemes. We will discuss insight gain
ed from the audit and outlined consequences to be drawn for further d
evelopment and performance optimization.\n\nDomain: CS and Math, Emerging
Applications, Chemistry and Materials, Climate and Weather, Physics, Solid
  Earth Dynamics, Life Sciences, Engineering
