SUMMARY:Simulation-Based Inference for Precision Measurements
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\n\nSimulation-Based Inference for Precision Meas
 urements\n\nCranmer\n\nParticle physicisits have developed high-fidel
ity simulators, which include computational manifestations of our fun
damental theories as well as detailed models for how our complex part
icle detectors will respond. Ironically, while these simulators provide ou
r highest-fidelity physical models, they are not well suited for inferring
properties of the model from data. I will formulate the emerging area of
simulation-based inference and describe how machine learning and probabili
stic programming techniques are being brought to bear on these challenging
problems.\n\nDomain: CS and Math, Emerging Applications, Physics, Enginee
